Mayumi Yoshida is from Tokyo, Japan. Her father being a journalist, she had an international childhood living in Washington D.C., Brussels, and Tokyo. In Tokyo, from 2005-2009 she starred in 25 theatre productions. She moved to Vancouver in 2010 to pursue her dream to be an actor in North America.
She is a graduate of Vancouver Film School, acting for film and television program.
Her role as Crown Princess (The Man in The High Castle) received a 2016 UBCP/ACTRA’s Emerging Actor nomination. For detailed acting credits please click here.
As an award winning writer/director she has been a leading force in emerging Asian-Canadian Cinema.
She made her debut as a filmmaker with Akashi-あかし-(2017) which she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in. The short film is based on her play NeOn-ね音- which was part of the 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival and 2017’s rEvolver Festival and Powell Street Festival.
In 2019, she received the Newcomer Award at the Spotlight Awards by Women in Film and Television Vancouver.
In the span of 3 years, she has directed 8 shorts and currently working on her feature film version of Akashi-あかし-.
